Orifice Flow Control

Orifice Flow Control Chambers – Now 10% Off!

Orifice flow control is where an orifice plate helps control/restrict the flow of water into a sewer or sewage treatment management system.

At Cotterill Civils, we stock the ORIFLO Range of orifice plate flow control chambers. These are designed to support SuDS management and the sewer infrastructure as part of a designed attenuation system, helping prevent flooding by controlling the flow into the main sewer.

Oriflo flow control chambers are a highly affordable option to manage surface water flows on site, this can prevent flooding.

At Cotterill Civils we stock the ORIFLO 300 series, the ORIFLO 450 series, the ORIFLO 650 series and the ORIFLO 1050 series, which all have different purposes and can be versatile to meet your needs.

The ORIFLO 300 is specifically designed for pre-filtered surface water from small modular/crate attenuation systems and permeable surfaces.

The ORIFLO 500 Orifice Flow Control Chamber comes in two designs:

  • OFCP500 – This model is classed as an unprotected orifice chamber and is designed to be installed downstream of pre filtered surface water run off ie. permeable paving and cellular/crate attenuation systems.
  • OFCC500- This model is a protected orifice chamber and is designed to be installed  downstream of tank and attenuation systems. It has a removable Silt Trap, which protects the orifice from silt and debris entering from the upstream pipework/storage.

The ORIFLO C SERIES is designed to be utilised in SuDS applications, where water is not pre-filtered. Typically downstream of medium to large attenuation systems.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the benefits of using orifice plate flow control?

Orifice plates measure flow rate, reduce pressure and restrict the flow of liquids and gases.

As a result of being small, lightweight plates, orifices are easy to install and uninstall, saving you a great deal of time and effort. They’re often thin enough to fit between an existing pair of pipe flanges, too.

Another great thing about orifice plate flow control is that it’s relatively inexpensive – meaning you won’t need to spend a fortune to prevent flooding.

Orifice plates don’t have moving parts, either, which makes them durable and low maintenance.

Are orifice plates easy to inspect and maintain?

Maintaining and inspecting orifice plates is crucial to their longevity and efficiency.

First of all, you need to check for signs of damage, wear and tear. If you spot any defects, these will need to be rectified before they escalate into something much more serious (and expensive) to repair.

It’s also a good idea to keep an eye out for blockages in the orifice as this will have a profound impact on orifice flow control.

Inspect the pressure taps for blockages and check for nicks and burns on the orifice edges, too.

To ensure accurate measurements, you should also consider calibrating the pressure transmitters regularly.

How do I know which orifice flow control chamber to choose?

Determining which unit and fittings you need for orifice flow control can be tricky – especially with so many different options to choose from.

But the team at Cotterill Civils is always on hand to help and will gladly assist you in making an informed choice.

To make your decision easier, we recommend considering the following factors:

  • The type of fluid and its properties
  • The flow rate
  • The operating pressure and temperature
  • The size of the pipe
  • The requirements of the measurement (i.e. accuracy, range, etc.)
  • The conditions that the system will be subjected to (i.e. corrosive fluids, extreme temperatures)

If you’d like an expert opinion to ensure you make the best choice, talk to the team today.
