Are large diameter Twinwall culvert HDPE Pipes expensive?
The costs of our large diameter Twinwall culvert HDPE pipes depend on the diameters and how many metres you need.
Unsurprisingly, the larger the pipe, the more you’ll pay.
Our smallest large diameter Twinwall culvert HDPE pipe measures 750mm and is the cheapest size we stock.
The largest diameter is 3,500mm, which will cost you the most.
With Cotterill Civils, we do our best to ensure that customers receive the best quality products, for the best possible price. As such, we also offer a discount for bulk orders – saving you more if you have a large project.
Large diameter Twinwall culvert HDPE pipes are economical
Whilst there are other surface water drainage pipes on the market, large diameter Twinwall culvert HDPE pipes are the most cost- efficient choice, saving costs in the long run.
Concrete pipes are cheaper at face value and offer good performance as they're sturdy and fairly robust. However, they won’t last as long as HDPE as concrete is susceptible to erosion.
Large diameter Twinwall culvert HDPE pipes have a life expectancy of 50 years or more, meaning that while you pay a little bit more, you receive a much more durable product.

The size of your large diameter Twinwall culvert pipe depends on the volume of stormwater that needs managing and the pipe's purpose.
For example, if installed below a motorway, the pipe will need to be larger in diameter to support the weight of the road.
We stock large diameter Twinwall culvert pipes in sizes for all applications. They include but aren’t limited to 700m, 900m, 1050m, 1200m and up to 3000m.

What are the benefits of large diameter Twinwall culvert HDPE Pipes?
Large diameter Twinwall culvert pipes are constructed from high-quality HDPE (high-density polypropylene), which has many benefits.
Increased lifespan
HDPE pipes last for decades, even when submerged in waterways. This is due to HDPE being corrosion and chemical resistant.
HDPE large diameter Twinwall culvert pipes are also proven to withstand the damaging effects of extreme weather, such as cracking, which can be caused by frozen water expanding inside pipes during the winter.
Durability
Twinwall culvert pipes have an outer corrugated wall that provides structural strength and resistance to shock and high pressure, protecting the inner pipe.
This makes them suitable for use below railway tracks and motorways that put immense pressure on piping beneath.
Additionally, their durability means they require little maintenance, saving you time and costs in repairs and replacements.
Easy to install
As they’re lightweight and easy to transport, large diameter Twinwall culvert pipes require less equipment to install and deliver to the site, lessening installation costs and speeding up the fitting process.
Our team of specialists can provide you with expert product advice. Call us today on 0121 351 3230, and we’ll be happy to assist you.
Does a large diameter Twinwall culvert pipe need a headwall?
Headwalls are concrete structures that prevent soil erosion, anchoring the pipe in place and providing support under overhead bridges and roads.
We recommend installing a headwall at the entrance to a culvert.
Why do I need to install a headwall?
The water passing through large diameter Twinwall culvert pipes often travels rapidly due to the smooth MDPE inner pipe wall.
This is perfect for moving stormwater away from flood zones quickly. However, turbulent water erodes the soil around the pipe entrance.
Headwalls protect the structure by reducing water flow speed and shielding the entrance from water.
Which headwall is best for my large diameter Twinwall culvert pipe?
This depends on where the pipe is installed – stackable rocks or stone are used for culvert pipes in remote woodland flood zones, as less reinforcement is required.
For large-diameter Twinwall culvert pipes built beneath roads and heavy-duty structures, precast concrete headwalls are the most suitable option as they can withstand significant weight and are more stable.
We stock a variety of precast concrete headwalls to protect large diameter Twinwall culvert pipes. For further advice, get in touch with us using our online enquiry form or call us on 0121 351 3230
