What do you need to consider when selecting an inspection chamber?
Your choice of inspection chamber is dependent on the diameter and depth of the chamber and whether man access is required.
They can be manufactured in both precast concrete and High-Density Polyethylene plastic (HDPE), providing you with a choice of materials. The best material depends upon your specific application.
The size of the inspection chamber is a big factor when considering which type of inspection chamber is best. For example, 320mm, 450mm and 600mm chambers will generally always be supplied in plastic. Anything above this size, we can supply in concrete rings, bespoke pre-benched concrete chamber bases or bespoke prefabricated HDPE chambers.
What are the different styles of man access inspection chambers?
Standard concrete rings – These will need to be surrounded by concrete and will also need benching on site, which can be timely. They also come with more health and safety implications as it will require people to work in deep excavations.
Wide wall concrete rings – These are similar to the above but do not require surrounding in concrete due to extra-thick walls.
Pre benched concrete chambers – These come with all the benching and pipe connections pre-done. They are more expensive to buy but will save you time on-site, which will also save you money in the installation. These are only to be used with wide wall rings. Please note, these can be extremely heavy to move around on-site though.
Prefabricated HDPE chambers – These tend to be more expensive to purchase but can be cheaper to install. This is because they are quicker and easier to install and they also do not require such heavy machinery. As a result of this, they are much safer to use on-site.
When considering both materials, it is worth noting that both are extremely durable and are designed to have a long design life.
