2022 is set to be an exciting time for the construction industry, after two years blighted by Covid restrictions, there finally looks like there’s light at the end of the tunnel. The Construction Products Association (CPA) predicts that output in the industry will grow by 4.3% in 2022 but product shortages are still expected. So what can you do to ensure you have the products you need?
This year’s predicted growth of 4.3% will follow a staggering 13.3% growth in 2021 – a year in which the construction sector rebounded from the initial Covid lockdowns.
One of the biggest issues faced by construction firms in 2021 was product supply issues. Whilst these have eased recently, they are expected to become a problem again in the coming months with the peak expected to be during the spring, according to the CPA.
At Cotterill Civils, we’ve been working hard to ensure our customers get the products they need. We don’t rely on a single manufacturer, which means we can call on different suppliers for any one product at any time, minimising the impact of shortages. We also keep large stocks in our yard that we’re continually replenishing.
This is, however, a national issue that all merchants are experiencing so some of our products will have longer lead times. We’re keeping our customers well informed and we recommend, when you can, that you order in advance, whether purchasing from us or any other supplier. We are already seeing new price increases coming through from our suppliers and expect more increases during the year so the earlier you can purchase the better.
It’s also worth considering using different materials for your products if you’re struggling to get them for a specific time. For example, you could use clay sewer pipe instead of plastic, galvanised steel culvert pipe instead of plastic or concrete rings rather than plastic. You get the gist! At Cotterill Civils we supply a wide range of civils and drainage products – give us a call today on 0121 351 3230 to speak to one of our specialists. We’d be more than happy to advise.
