The challenge:
As a fast-growing business they needed more space to operate in. In 2012, they decided to acquire a new site on Lichfield Industrial Estates. The site covered almost 5 acres and included large industrial unit space, car parking, and an external storage yard.
The external storage yard covered almost 2 acres. It had a non-bound stone surface that had been fine for its previous use as a vehicle rental company depot. But going forward Kingsbury Pallets would be using forklift trucks on small solid wheels. What they needed was a perfect concrete yard with gentle gradients, good drainage, and a non-slip surface.
Jon Towers, Managing Director of Kingsbury Palletts, approached Cotterill Civils having already used them to work on another of the company’s sites. Cotterill Civils liaised directly with its structural engineers who designed a concrete slab and drainage system to suit.
The results:
The work started in January 2013 and was completed in April through very challenging weather conditions. Cotterill Civils installed a crated surface water attenuation system which minimised surface water runoff from the site and reduced Kingsbury Pallets sewerage rates significantly. Cotterill Civils managed to keep the job progressing through a difficult winter with the use of mobile tents to protect the work from the elements.
